Every time a New Year starts, I always write down a list of goals I want to achieve. This year ‘2020’ saw a strong start for me, with nothing short of being the best year yet! I have now started to notice that I’m not alone in saying that my goals have come to a pause. But during this Pandemic, is it a time to stop and reflect? Or a time to reinvent and push on through?

On most mornings during Isolation, I have found myself scrolling Instagram. I often find that minutes tend to pass on aimless scrolling, but now I am absolutely loving the all new creative content coming through. One morning I reached out to a Friend of mine @Dr.Aliaa Yusof - Cosmetic Doctor, Hair Loss Specialist & Professional Trainer, after she posted her first piece of fresh creative content called “Couch Consults”. Unlike most Instagram tutorials, with her expertise she shared information about the general ups and downs of beauty & health care in Isolation, it was totally relatable. I was so impressed by the videos, but not only by the information she was giving, but also by the way she had reinvented herself during this time. I spoke to Dr.Aliaa through a “DM” and told her I loved this movement, I found it so great that she was able to still engage with her customers even from home.

Even though she mentioned it had been a challenge “keeping people tuned in without providing them with a product” she still found passion in what she was doing and only slightly wished  “I could be injecting online” .. I couldn’t help but ask her more about this exciting time for her.. Sounds like the content worked a treat, Hey? ..

So, Here’s my Q&A with Dr.Aliaa, you can see the complete video via our Instagram Page (@AppySalons) where she is also joined by her adorable fluffy cat, Max, lazing about in the background.

How long have you been working in your industry and what inspired you to start?

“My journey into cosmetic medicine started 7 years ago, and it stems from a very personal space. There was a turning point in my life when I started to look after myself better, and when I looked good, I felt so much better. So I truly believe that when you look good, you feel good, it just propels you to achieve your true potential in life.”

Tell us about your new Couch Consults, and what can we expect from them?

“Couch Consults really started as a Quarantine Project for me, addressing a lot of common Beauty & Skin concerns. Like I would do in my Clinic but from my couch to your couch.”

What’s your proudest moment of your Career?

“So far, definitely was last year when I was invited to perform a lip filler injection on stage in front of hundreds of my colleges and peers that I respect at a conference called Aesthetics 2019.”

Do you have any Tips on maintaining healthy skin during Lockdown?

“Always use Hand Creams or Moisturisers that are Rich in ceramides or humectants …. After you wash your hands. Protect your skin against blue light emissions from your devices, by incorporating antioxidants into your skincare routine and maybe swapping to a physical sunblock. Lastly, it is a great time to start using your Vitamin A or Retinol products to keep your skin glowing through this lockdown.”

Is Dr. Aliaa a good cook? What is your favourite meal that is keeping you going?

“I have a love and hate relationship with cooking, though I have to say I have been cooking a lot more that I’m in quarantine. My favourite comfort foods, I have to say, going back to my Malaysian roots, are good classic Malaysian dishes.”

Feeling so thankful that during Isolation we are still able to have these amazing connections with our friends, family, peers & creatives. Be sure to follow my friend, @DrAliaaYusof on Instagram and learn more about Frown Lines, Sleep Skincare & Isolation Hair Loss in her informative “Couch Consults”.

On the business side of things, I am so excited to see businesses big & small reinventing themselves over this difficult time. With more weeks to come in Isolation, it is a challenge in knowing weather your clients you had before will be coming back. We hope this Interview has inspired you to engage & make sure you are still keeping them updated. Your relationship with them, is only as good as you make it!
